Letter: Celebrate Earth Day

Things to do on Thursday, Earth Day:

E – Environmental activism is acceptable and highly encouraged (but for one day only).

A – All day long, the Eco-Café will be serving FREE fair trade coffee for those lucky few who still have their Cupps cups (or can borrow, buy or steal one from a first-year…)

R – Recycle your soda and beer cans to preserve the Earth’s limited supply of aluminum and ensure that people will be drinking for generations to come.

T – Turn off your computer when you are not using it. Screensavers save ZERO energy.

H – Hug a tree (come on, you know you’ve always wanted to!).

D – Double-sided papers get better grades than single-sided papers, so do yourself a favor and go to layout properties and flip on the long edge.

A – Ask your custodian for a compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb when yours burns out. CFL bulbs produce the same amount of light as normal bulbs, but use one third of the electricity and last up to 10 times longer.

Y – Yet another excuse to celebrate Earth Day: the Benefit Concert at 7 p.m. in Goodrich! Featuring the Accidentals, Caitlin Canty, Don Mitchell, Poongmul Pe, Steel Pan, Rude Cider, Zambezi, the Nica Choir and other solo and duet performers.

Happy Earth Day!
